Cafe Moby – 41 The Esplanade, TORQUAY
A stroll or drive by Cafe Moby on Torquay’s Esplanade, you may be forgiven for thinking, “Yep, just another groovy Surf Coast beach shack coffee haunt.” But, that’s just the outside…
If you have little groms in tow, Cafe Moby is SIMPLY THE BEST place on the Surf Coast for big people to caffein-ate – in relative peace and quiet. Boom!
Out back is a wonderland of cubbies, play things, sand pit, and plenty of space and big-sky country to run amok. Little people can spill, dribble, slide and dig, climb the rock wall, ding the bell at the top – and all ‘under the shade of a coolabah tree’.
Many plusses at Cafe Moby – coffee’s great, food’s consistently good, service is tip-top. And there’s never the feeling you’re outstaying your welcome – can be tricky to tear the littlies away from the playground – so that’s a good thing.
Best chai latte, in a little teapot; soba noodle salad bowl; munchies and miniature bikkies and handmade sweet novelties for children. In winter, the soups and hot pastries are healthy, hearty comfort food pure delish. Cafe Moby do a brilliant breakfast, too.
What’s on the Menu – in winter – is scrawled on a big sheet of brown paper up front. Get onto this quick smart, as you may miss the boat. When the goodness runs out, the goodies on offer here are – quite literally – Sold Out. The sign says so! I love this move by Moby’s, as it’s an assurance that no one’s pulling yesterday’s heroes from some overstocked freezer out back. Everything here is fresh, fresh, fresh, and locally sourced.
This little groove train is licensed, and summer weekends there’s a woodfired pizza oven hotting things up to live music under the stars. Nothing, nothing at all to complain about here.
If Cafe Moby gets the party started, and the little ones still have some sillies to shake out, there’s lots more fun in store. Where?
Opening hours differ between seasons.
