Great Ocean Road Ice-Cream Festival

The Surf Coast’s Summer Ice-Cream Festival 8–19 February 2017

Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie – 1200 Great Ocean Road, BELLBRAE

“I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice-cream…”

Entry is free from 9am–5pm every day to taste test 144 artisan flavours, created by the Surf Coast’s world-acclaimed chocolatiers. Not all at once, of course. This festival runs for 12 days, so there’s plenty of time – and 12 new flavours are created each and every day.

Prebook online for a 40-minute hosted tasting of 12 discrete, delectable flavours in the Chocolaterie’s private tasting room. Tickets for this ice-cream extravaganza interaction are $18pp.

Arrive for breakfast. Stay for lunch. Or just coffee, cake and a sundae? No chance – as the Great Ocean Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery offer free chocolate tastings, too.

And just in case you’re thinking ice-cream is not really the coolest, check out the benefits…

King Malleta of Nextshark – in her article titled Japanese Study Reveals Eating Ice-Cream for Breakfast Will Make You Smarter – reviews the clinical trials of Yoshiko Koga of Tokyo’s Kyorin University.

Koga links eating ice-cream in the morning to positive effects on the brain’s performance. Koga – an expert in psychophysiology – concentrated on the potential stress-relieving and anti-aging capabilities of this food choice.

Koga partnered with a large Japanese confectionery company as part of his experiment. Of the group of participants who ate ice-cream immediately upon rising and shining of a morning, Koga deduced that…

“Subjects’ brains exhibited an increase in high-frequency alpha waves, which are connected to enhanced alertness and reduced mental irritation.”

Yep, I’ll believe anything when the health benefits of ice-cream and chocolate are extolled in the same sentence.
