HOUSE OF LILOLLIA – Shop 2, Fischer Street, Dunes Village – TORQUAY NORTH
Torquay North’s right in the middle…
‘Homemade from the heart’ is the credo of House of Lilollia in Torquay, a veritable Aladdin’s Cave of treasures.
Imust have been wandering about Baines Crescent in a purple haze to have missed the magic here, so too a collection of similarly bewildered customers poking about the unique and funky wares, the day I stumbled upon the magnificent House of Lilollia at its relocated Dunes Village digs.
And yes, lots of ‘l’s in House of Lilollia. Must be because everything inside is so luscious, luxe and lautitious. First impression on entering House of Lilollia is that it has that stylish-come-cosy hygge vibe that the Danes have mastered with such aplomb. So many original, unusual suspects in the homeware and gift department.
Lots of snuggly-up, cuddlesome soft toys for little ones. Homely Bear sleeping cushions are simply beautiful. OBDesigns Huggie Barry Bear one of my favourite little people; Kiki and Coco Koala make a pretty cute couple, too. Burrow & Bee cotton muslin wraps, and ‘round and round the garden, like a teddy bear’ it goes in here. That’s baby shower gift shopping sorted. Big Hugs all round for the sweetest bubbly baby companions. There’s also a nifty little collection of baby and children’s nursery furniture.
On the designer homeware and decor front, bamboo and seagrass baskets, wood and chestnut salt bowls, and spoons, marble and resin jewellery trays, and a luscious supply of beautiful bed linen – just so much to covet and admire on every shelf. The Billy & Scarlet prints I’ve not seen locally.
Couldn’t resist the Brown Paper Lemon seal pillow case. Tough choice, as the humpback whale and loggerhead sea turtle are just as groovy. These make a great take-home from holidays souvenir or a funky piece of Australiana to send overseas – the perfect lightweight, Australia Post-friendly gift.
Check the Sienna Byron Bay nail varnishes. Barefoot Dancer, Gaia, Buttercup and Breeze – twinkle-toe Surf Coast terrific. Body and skin care products, all natural. Plain and Simple in plentiful supply.
Interestingly, House of Lilollia candles were the building blocks of this establishment. Amber Moss and Peony Rose, subtle and just divine. Lots more to sniff and savour.
Olieve & Olie hands down my newest and favourite Spoil Me find. Handmade on the Mornington Peninsula, this is serious heavenly, buttery, olivey, gorgeous goo. Olieve & Olie’s Be Mine Miss Clementine Massage Bar is a Body, Bath & Fragrance 2016 Award winner.
House of Lilollia’s Elk and Earth felted wool cushions are top-shelf. And on the felt thing, the exquisite handcrafted Felt Fairy miniatures are simply amazing – red-and-white spotted toadstools, fairy pods (with fairy inside), cheeky little pixie people, and all things elfin and goblinesque.
Castlemaine artist, Katherine Wheeler, features as one of the many stars of the show at House of Lilollia. Her art design, jewellery and ceramics are centrepiece classics. All Katherine’s work has a natural and earthy environmental, marine life, Australian flora and fauna feel.
Some beautiful leather bags and wallets hanging about the place sharing the space with Turkish throws and towels. You’ll find some arty coffee table books, too. Some great gifts for the boys, also.
Prices are astoundingly reasonable for such beautifully handcrafted originals. House of Lilollia do a pretty stylish job of gift wrapping, too.
Spoil Me – and Everyone Else on the Team. This one’s a little humdinger!
