THE AIREYS PUB – 45 Great Ocean Road, AIREYS INLET
This one’s a classic. A Surf Coast legend…
The Aireys Pub on The Great Ocean Road, Aireys Inlet, is the quintessential true-blue great Aussie watering hole and chow-down, with a cherry or two on top. Ask to see the Rogue Wave onsite brewery. Better still, try Aireys Pub brewed-on-site Rogue Wave beers. Some better‑than‑pub‑average local wines and ciders on offer here, too.
Food is consistently spot-on and not your run‑of-the-mill usual pub fare. Service is always laid‑back good, and meals comes fast and hot. Can’t go past the fish and chips here. Although there’s always a great board of very hard to choose specials to do your head in. The outdoor woodfire pizza oven doubles as a quirky objet d’art. This is not on every day, though. Plenty of green, green grass, fresh air, big‑sky country, and a rustic out-back nautical play area. In winter there’s a cheery open fire.
Live music weekends and Friday nights, and you’ll pay witness to some authentic and coasty Open Mic treasures. Family friendly, you-beaut open‑air or indoor all-round good experience. Moggs Creek is just down the road, if you feel the urge for a beach stroll on AFL hallowed Danger Man turf. Or trip the Eagle Rock clifftop close by, and check out the lighthouse at Aireys Inlet Split Point.
Don’t want to leave? Stick around, and hone your pot black or billiard skills.
Lots to talk about at Aireys Pub. These much-loved digs were very nearly lost in bushfires some years back. Thank you, wonderful CFA firies. The stuff of folklore – one of the best local Surf Coast pub eateries come watering holes along the Great Ocean Road. No…THE best!
